About Racine

Racine is the county seat of Racine County. It is the fifth-largest city in Wisconsin, sporting a population of 78,860. Racine is located on the shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Root River and is approximately 30 miles south of Milwaukee and 60 miles north of Chicago.  

There are so many different things to do in Racine. The Wind Point Lighthouse tends to be a popular attraction due to how recognizable it is. The lighthouse offers open tower days where anyone can come and tour the lighthouse for free, as well as private group tours for larger groups. Both of these options are great ways to learn more about the lighthouse and take in some of the beautiful architecture. The park area around the lighthouse is open every day from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M. and has picnic tables, gardens with beautiful flowers, and a beach that allows visitors to swim in Lake Michigan. If you’re looking for something fun for the whole family, check out the Racine Zoo. The zoo offers a multitude of exhibits including lions, bears, giraffes, and penguins. Around the Racine area there are many different golf courses where you can get a round in. Washington Park, Shoop Park, and Johnson Park are just a few of the options in the area, yet they all offer their own unique challenges for golfers of all levels. The parks department also sponsors tons of different events and activities throughout the year. During the summer months you can travel around the many different parks in the area and check out the Pop-Up Biergarten for an opportunity to try some beer during a cool summer night. In the winter months check out the Racine Fire and Ice festival where talented artists create beautiful sculptures out of ice blocks.

Food options are plentiful in Racine, but there are a few that stick out from the rest. Racine Kringle is a must stop for anyone who enjoys pastries. Racine Kringle is known around the country for having the highest quality kringles around and has become a hot spot for kringle fans everywhere. Olde Madrid is another popular spot for the locals.
